"Women's Altra® Escalante 5: The Women's Altra Escalante 5 is a neutral road running shoe that earns its place in the daily training rotation by balancing soft cushioning with enough responsiveness to keep easy miles and tempo runs feeling lively. At 7.8 ounces with a Zero Drop™ platform - equal 24mm stack height heel to toe - it positions your foot flat to the ground, encouraging a more natural foot strike without sacrificing the cushioning you want on longer efforts. The Altra EGO™ foam midsole is the engine here: soft when you land, with enough energy return that the ride never feels dead. If you've been looking for a lightweight road shoe that doesn't make you choose between comfort and feel, the Escalante 5 is worth a close look. The engineered knit upper wraps the foot without rigid overlays, so it moves with you rather than against you - especially useful when fatigue sets in on longer runs. Altra's FootShape™ toe box gives your toes room to splay naturally at push-off, which is a real advantage for runners with wider forefeet who have felt cramped in more tapered shoes. The updated tongue and redesigned collar work together to reduce pressure points and keep the fit secure without creating hot spots. An updated rubber outsole rounds things out with improved grip and wear resistance on road surfaces, so the shoe holds up as the miles add up.Why Our Fit Experts Love This Shoe""I took the Escalante 5 out for a longer easy run and noticed right away how the knit upper just moves with your foot - no stiff spots, no rubbing. The cushioning felt soft but not spongy, and the wider toe box made a real difference by the end of the run. It's the kind of shoe I'd reach for on back-to-back training days."" - Rachel, Road Runner Sports Fit Expert, Carlsbad, CAWho It's Best ForIf you're a neutral runner looking for a lightweight daily trainer that handles easy miles and tempo runs without feeling like two different shoes, the Escalante 5 is a strong fit. It works especially well for runners who prefer a zero-drop, natural-feel ride and anyone with a wider forefoot who wants room to move rather than being squeezed into a narrow toe box. The soft-yet-responsive cushioning makes it a go-to for building mileage on the road, and the secure, adaptable fit suits a wide range of foot shapes.
