Sierra Varminter Features The Sierra Varminter bullet at 150 grains and .308 inch diameter is purpose-built for varmint and small game hunting where rapid expansion matters more than deep penetration. Its jacketed lead construction uses a thin jacket specifically engineered to enhance expansion on impact while still withstanding the stress of high muzzle velocities. The hollow point nose design is the same shape used across Sierra s MatchKing GameKing and Pro-Hunter lines though tuned here for Varminter-level expansion rather than match consistency or big game penetration. Selecting the correct bullet within Sierra s hollow point lineup is important since performance can range from controlled expansion to complete fragmentation depending on the specific bullet and its intended use. Sierra builds the Varminter classification around bullets with thin jackets capable of handling the highest velocities found in varmint cartridges without jacket failure before expansion. This combination of thin jacket and hollow point design produces the rapid energy transfer varmint hunters want for quick humane kills on smaller game animals. Sold in a 500-count box this bulk packaging suits handloaders who process large volumes of varmint ammunition through the season. For reloaders seeking a dedicated varmint bullet with proven Sierra quality the Varminter delivers consistent expansion performance shot after shot.
