Forster Products Neck Tension Gage Features The Forster 284 Neck Tension Gage consists of four stepped diameters that increase in size toward the handle with each diameter etched directly on the metal tool for easy identification. To use the gage a reloader simply inserts the stepped end into the neck of a sized case sliding it in until one of the diameters achieves a slip fit and uses that resulting value to fine tune case preparation. This process gives handloaders the precise information needed to create consistent neck tension during the bullet seating step which directly affects how uniformly a bullet releases under pressure and how consistently velocities run from shot to shot. The gage also doubles as an inspection tool for detecting a donut a ring of brass that can form at the neck to shoulder junction after repeated firings and resizing. This gage is part of a five caliber family Forster offers with this specific unit sized for 284 caliber and 7mm cases. At just over four and three quarter inches long and a fraction of a pound in weight it is a compact tool that fits easily into a reloading kit or case gauge box. Using a tool like this between sizing and seating lets reloaders catch inconsistent case necks before they become inconsistent ammunition saving both components and time at the range. For 7mm and 284 caliber reloaders who want to screen and sort brass with precision this Forster gage is a straightforward purpose built solution.
