Underwood Ammo Rifle Ammunition Features The Underwood Ammo .458 SOCOM load is built around a 300 grain polymer tipped projectile designed to combine rapid expansion with deep penetration. The polymer tip helps the bullet initiate reliably on impact rather than relying on velocity alone which matters in a big bore cartridge that is often called on for close to moderate range hunting and personal defense work out of an AR-platform rifle. Behind that tip the boat tail design reduces base drag in flight helping the bullet carry energy and resist wind drift better than a flat base projectile of the same weight. Underwood loads its ammunition to maximize the performance envelope of each cartridge and the .458 SOCOM is no exception giving shooters a load built to get the most out of the platform. Each box holds 20 rounds giving a shooter enough ammunition for a solid range session or a hunting trip without needing to break into a second box mid-outing. The .458 SOCOM cartridge was designed to deliver substantially more energy than 5.56 NATO out of the same AR-15 pattern magazine and bolt and this 300 grain loading takes full advantage of that case capacity. Shooters running suppressed or standard AR-platform .458 SOCOM rifles for hog hunting deer hunting or home defense will find this load delivers consistent accuracy and dependable expansion shot after shot. For big bore AR shooters who want proven factory ammunition rather than a handload this Underwood .458 SOCOM round is a straightforward hard hitting choice.
