Proof Research Competition PXT Barrel Blank Features The Proof Research Competition PXT barrel is machined from stainless steel and finished to a competition standard that prioritizes consistent bore dimensions along its full 26 inch length. A 1:7 twist rate suits the faster-stabilizing heavier for caliber .224 bullets favored by long-range and precision competitors. Five-groove rifling is cut to tight tolerances to promote uniform bullet engagement and reduce shot-to-shot variation that can open up groups at distance. Weighing approximately 2 pounds 13 ounces this blank is intended for bolt-action builds where a gunsmith will fit and chamber it to the shooter s specific action. The stainless steel construction also helps manage heat across extended strings of fire keeping the bore more stable shot to shot during a competition string. As a barrel blank rather than a finished chambered barrel the Competition PXT gives builders full control over chambering headspace and crown to match their exact rifle and cartridge specifications. The stainless steel finish provides corrosion resistance that holds up through repeated cleaning and extended range sessions without compromising bore integrity. This barrel is built for shooters and gunsmiths pursuing match-grade accuracy in a custom or semi-custom precision rifle build. Proof Research s reputation for tight-tolerance barrel manufacturing makes this blank a solid foundation for a dedicated competition rifle. Starting from a blank also lets a builder set the exact chamber reamer and throat dimensions best suited to their preferred .224 caliber load rather than inheriting a factory-spec chamber.
