Product Description
If you have never burned a pure beeswax candle, this is where to begin. Or, if you&';ve always burned one kind of beeswax candle, this is where to begin again. Most people meet beeswax through one candle, in one shape, and never find out that the format changes the experience as much as the wax does. A taper, a tea light, a pillar and a votive are made of exactly the same 100% pure beeswax, but they create very different candlelight. We bundled them together so you can discover which kind of beeswax candle serves your candle-burning habits best. Everything in this kit is 100% pure, lightly filtered cappings beeswax, hand-dipped and hand-poured in our Montrose, Colorado workshop. What&';s In Each Candle Kit 3-Piece Starter - roughly 70 hours of candlelight One pair of 8" hand-dipped beeswax taper candles - about 16 hours Six pure beeswax tea lights in clear cups - about 30 hours One 2" x 3" raw beeswax pillar candle - about 25 hours 5-Piece Complete - roughly 120 hours of candlelight Everything in the 3-Piece Starter Four pure beeswax votive candles - about 48 hours One fitted clear glass votive holder The 5-Piece adds almost 50 more hours of burn time and introduces the votive, which is the workhorse of the beeswax world and our most re-purchased candle format. We include the holder because a votive genuinely does not work without one (more on that below). Finding Your Perfect Match: Why Each Format Is Different Hand-dipped tapers - the dinner candle. Our tapers are dipped by hand, one thin layer at a time, by lowering a cotton wick into molten beeswax at exactly the right temperature. It takes a steady hand and a keen eye to make a perfectly balanced candlestick. They burn roughly an hour per inch and stay drip-resistant in still air. This is the only format where the candle itself is the object you are looking at - a tall flame at eye level, down the length of a table. Tapers also offer the most flexible burn time of all candle formats. Burn them for ten minutes or ten hours, you can&';t mess up this burn equation. Tea lights - the easy, breezy team player. Each one is poured into its own cup, so there is no holder to buy and nothing to clean up. Tea lights are the format that works best in multiples: light one to warm up a photograph or a bathroom shelf, or light a dozen and watch a room transform with dreamy starlight. The starter kits include pure beeswax tea lights in clear cups, which hold about 20% more wax than metal and burn about half an hour longer. The poly cups can also be refilled to reduce waste. Tea lights are minimal maintenance. Simply light them and enjoy the glow - they need no wick trimming at all. Pillars - the glow-through candle. Beeswax is a sublime material and it offers beautiful glow-through. As pillar candles burn down, the flame lights the whole column from the inside and the candle becomes a lantern rather than a stick with a flame on top. No other wax throws golden hour glow the way pure, raw beeswax does. A pillar also carries the largest pool of warm, molten wax, which makes it the most fragrant candle in the kit - aka the honey scent is strongest here. Burn a 2" pillar in sessions of about an hour to keep it from dripping. If you love the format, level up to a wider pillar on repurchase for even more burn time and stronger scent. Votives - the workhorse. A votive is built to go completely molten and fill its container, which is why it needs a holder just wide enough to fit it. Give it that, and it will burn for 12 hours or more and frequently leave nothing behind but the little wick clip. Pound for pound it is the most cost-effective beeswax burn time you can buy from us, which is why votives are what people order by the case for weddings and subscribe to for daily candlelight. PSA: use too wide a holder and the wax spreads out, goes unburned, and the burn time collapses - so start with the glass we have included, you can always shop fancier votive holders if you find you&';re a regular votive candle burner. Why Domestically-Sourced Cappings Beeswax When honeybees finish filling a comb cell with honey, they seal it with a fresh, pale cap of beeswax. At harvest, the beekeeper slices those caps away to release the honey. That sliced-off layer is cappings wax - the freshest, sweetest wax in the hive. It&';s also the most sustainable, leaving the energy-intensive comb wax intact for bees to reuse. Most commodity beeswax is rendered from old brood comb instead: darker, duller, and far less fragrant. We buy cappings wax from beekeepers here in the United States and filter it only lightly - enough to take out the particulate that would choke a wick, not enough to strip the color or the scent. That is the whole reason a raw Bluecorn candle smells like anything at all. There is no fragrance added to a single candle in this kit. Good To Know 100% pure beeswax - no paraffin, no soy, no blends Cotton wicks - no lead, no metal cores Unscented and undyed - the honey aroma is the wax itself Sourced from U.S. beekeepers, handmade in western Colorado since 1991 Trim wicks to 1/4" before lighting; burn on a heat-safe surface; never leave a burning candle unattended Once you know which format is yours, we make all four in quantity: hand-dipped taper candles, pure beeswax tea lights, beeswax pillar candles and beeswax votive candles.
