You cock it like a spring gun, but the gas strut does not take a set when left cocked, cycles with less vibration and twang, and stays consistent across temperature changes.About the CaliberThe .22 caliber (5.5 mm) fires heavier pellets than .177. They carry more energy and hit harder at a given velocity, which is why .22 is a popular choice for small game and pest control where legal.Specifications ExplainedCrosman rates velocity at Up to 800 fps. Published velocity is measured with the ammunition type the manufacturer lists; heavier pellets will shoot slower but often carry more energy.Muzzle energy is listed as 21 ft-lbs. Energy, not just velocity, is what matters for pest control and small game, where legal. For capacity and feeding, Crosman lists: Magazine. The barrel is listed as Rifled/Overmolded. A rifled barrel spins the pellet for accuracy.Trigger: Two Stage. A predictable trigger is one of the biggest factors in accurate shooting. For aiming, the manufacturer lists Fixed Blade. Check the rail type before buying rings or a dot sight. The safety is listed as Lever. Learn how it works from the owner's manual before loading.Getting Started and CareBefore the first session, read the owner's manual, check that the gun is unloaded, and set up a safe backstop or pellet trap. Shoot from a rest to confirm where the gun hits at your usual distance, then adjust the sights or scope.Try several brands and weights of quality .22 pellets of the type the manufacturer lists. Airguns often prefer one pellet over another, and finding it is the quickest way to tighter groups.Break-barrel and gas-piston airguns are hold-sensitive. Use a light, consistent hold, let the gun recoil naturally, and never dry-fire it. Clean the barrel only as the manufacturer recommends. What You Will Want With ItEye protection for the shooter and anyone nearbyA pellet or BB trap rated for the gun's power, or a safe backstopPaper targets or reactive targetsA case or sling for transportSafety and Local LawsTreat every airgun as if it were loaded, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, and keep your finger off the trigger until you're ready to shoot.
