Hodgdon Varget Smokeless Powder 8lb Hodgdon Varget Smokeless Powder 8 lb is an extruded Hodgdon smokeless rifle powder in the Extreme series. It is built with small, uniform grains for consistent metering, and it is described as insensitive to hot and cold temperatures. That combination makes it a familiar choice for handloaders who want a stable powder that behaves consistently across changing conditions. Varget is also noted for quick ignition and clean burning. Hodgdon describes it as producing higher energy for improved velocities compared to other powders in its burning-speed class. As always, that does not replace published load data. Use Hodgdon's published data and manuals for your exact cartridge, bullet, and rifle, then start low and work up carefully while watching for pressure signs. Typical cartridge examples listed for Varget include .223 Remington with heavy bullets in competitive matches, .22-250 Remington, .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, and .375 H&H Magnum. Those are general use examples, not load recommendations. For shooters who use Varget regularly, the 8 lb canister is the practical choice for a larger supply on hand. Smokeless powder is a hazardous material. This item ships ground only to the contiguous US, a hazmat fee applies, and an adult signature is required. Smokeless powder cannot be returned. Store it safely and follow established reloading practices at all times.
