The Traditions Hand-Knapped English Flint is a replacement ignition component for compatible flintlock muzzleloaders. This single-pack variant contains one 5/8-inch gun flint shaped by traditional knapping methods from material sourced from England. Once secured correctly in the jaws of a flintlock's cock, the working edge strikes the firearm's frizzen as the lock operates. That contact produces the sparks needed to ignite the priming charge in the pan and begin the muzzleloader's firing sequence. It is a practical choice for replacing a worn, damaged, or lost flint, and its compact size also makes it convenient to carry as a field or range spare. The 5/8-inch format is the size Traditions generally recommends for its flintlock firearms, although owners should compare the flint with their firearm's existing component and follow the firearm manual when installing or positioning it. Traditions notes that models equipped with a PA Pellet lock or another newer lock assembly with a larger frizzen may work better with a slightly larger flint, so this specific size should be selected only when it matches the lock being serviced. Unlike a percussion cap or primer, a gun flint is a reusable mechanical ignition component, but its striking edge gradually changes through normal operation and may eventually require attention or replacement. Correct orientation, secure clamping, and suitable clearance between the flint and frizzen are important for dependable lock movement. Because this is the one-flint package, it is suited to customers who need an individual replacement rather than the two-count version offered under a different Traditions item number. It is intended specifically as a flintlock accessory and is not a replacement component for percussion or modern inline ignition systems.Specifications and Features: 5/8-inch hand-knapped English gun flint Single-flint package For compatible flintlock muzzleloaders Strikes the frizzen to produce ignition sparks Flint material sourced from England Brand: Traditions Product Type: Flintlock Replacement Flint Manufacturer Part Number: A12081 UPC: 040589031743
