Why Buy the Savage B.MAG Target Thumbhole Designed specifically for the 17 Win. Super Magnum cartridge Adjustable AccuTrigger Stainless steel heavy barrel Gray laminate thumbhole stock Center-feed rotary magazine Compact action with rear locking lugs Thread-in barrel headspacing Soft rubber butt pad Barrel and Accuracy The 22-inch barrel is stainless steel in a heavy contour with a matte stainless finish. Its 1:8 twist rate is set up to stabilize the bullet weights commonly loaded in 17 WSM, which matters for consistent groups. AccuTrigger and Action The user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you set the pull weight yourself from 2.5 lbs to 6 lbs, and its AccuRelease blade helps keep it from firing unless it is pulled deliberately. A crisp, light break is one of the easiest ways to shoot smaller groups. It feeds from a detachable box magazine that holds 8 rounds, with an ambidextrous magazine release. The bolt release is on the side. The receiver is stainless steel with a natural matte finish. Stock and Fit The stock is laminate in Gray with a matte finish (Thumbhole style). Length of pull is 13.88. A recoil pad at the butt helps manage recoil. The thumbhole grip gives a steady, repeatable hand position. 3 sling studs let you add a sling or bipod. Optics and Sights The receiver comes with two-piece scope bases for mounting the optic of your choice. Who the Savage B.MAG Target Thumbhole Is For This 17 WSM rifle is a good fit for small game and varmint hunting. The 22-inch barrel gets the most velocity from the cartridge. About the 17 WSM Chambering 17 WSM is a rimfire cartridge, which keeps ammunition affordable and recoil and report low. That makes it a good choice for teaching new shooters, high-volume practice and taking small game or pests at sensible ranges. Rimfire ammunition is more sensitive to brand and lot than centerfire, so try a few loads to find the one your barrel likes best. Getting It Range Ready Read the owner manual that comes with the rifle before handling it, and confirm it is unloaded every time you pick it up. Start your first session at a short distance to get on paper, then move back in steps while you refine your zero or point of aim. Shoot from a stable rest, let the barrel cool between strings, and write down the load, distance and group size so you can repeat your results later in the season. Care and Cleaning Before the first trip to the range, clean the bore and chamber to remove any preservative from the factory, then check that all screws are snug. After shooting, run a cleaning rod with a patch and solvent through the bore from the chamber end, follow with dry patches, and wipe exterior metal with a light coat of oil. Store the rifle unloaded in a dry, secure place, ideally a safe with a dehumidifier, and keep ammunition stored separately.
