Why Buy the Savage 212 Slug Fully rifled, bolt-action slug gun designed for 2 3/4& 3 shells Rugged synthetic stock Button-rifled barrel Detachable box magazine Thread-in barrel headspacing Barrel and Accuracy The 22-inch barrel is carbon steel with a matte black finish. The barrel is rifled with a 1:35 twist for slugs, which gives a slug gun much tighter groups than a smoothbore. AccuTrigger and Action The user-adjustable AccuTrigger lets you set the pull weight yourself from 2.5 lbs to 6 lbs, and its AccuRelease blade helps keep it from firing unless it is pulled deliberately. A crisp, light break is one of the easiest ways to shoot smaller groups. It feeds from a detachable box magazine that holds 2 rounds, with an ambidextrous magazine release. The bolt release is on the bottom. The receiver is carbon steel with a black matte finish. Stock and Fit The stock is synthetic in Black with a matte finish (Sporter style). AccuFit lets you change length of pull and comb height with included inserts, so the rifle fits your build and lines your eye up behind the scope. The AccuStock rail system beds the action along its full length for consistent accuracy shot to shot. Length of pull is 12.75 to 13.75. A recoil pad with spacers at the butt helps manage recoil. 2 sling studs let you add a sling or bipod. Optics and Sights The receiver comes with a one-piece scope rail for mounting the optic of your choice. Who the Savage 212 Slug Is For This 12 Gauge shotgun is a good fit for big game hunting. The 22-inch barrel gets the most velocity from the cartridge. About the 12 Gauge Chambering As a 12 Gauge shotgun it covers a wide range of loads, from light target shells to heavier hunting loads. Always check the chamber length marked on the barrel and match your shells to it, and pattern your gun with the loads you plan to hunt with before the season opens. Getting It Range Ready Read the owner manual that comes with the shotgun before handling it, and confirm it is unloaded every time you pick it up. Start your first session at a short distance to get on paper, then move back in steps while you refine your zero or point of aim. Shoot from a stable rest, let the barrel cool between strings, and write down the load, distance and group size so you can repeat your results later in the season. Care and Cleaning Before the first trip to the range, clean the bore and chamber to remove any preservative from the factory, then check that all screws are snug. After shooting, run a cleaning rod with a patch and solvent through the bore from the chamber end, follow with dry patches, and wipe exterior metal with a light coat of oil. Store the shotgun unloaded in a dry, secure place, ideally a safe with a dehumidifier, and keep ammunition stored separately.
