Product Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor - .45-70 Government - Antique Military Rifle
An authentic piece of 19th-century American military history, this U.S. Springfield Model 1884 Trapdoor rifle represents one of the most recognizable military firearm designs of the American frontier era.
Manufactured at the historic Springfield Armory, this example bears serial number 504480, placing its production around early 1891. Developed from the earlier Model 1873, the Model 1884 incorporated several important improvements, most notably the advanced Buffington adjustable rear sight.
The Springfield Trapdoor served the United States military throughout the latter years of the Indian Wars, with rifles of this design continuing in service into the Spanish-American War era.
This example features the distinctive hinged Trapdoor breech-loading action, U.S. Springfield lockplate with American eagle, military inspection and proof markings, U.S.-marked steel buttplate, and original-pattern military sights. The walnut stock retains a visible period inspection cartouche and displays the character and wear associated with its considerable age.
