The bolt catch releases the bolt to battery when pressed after the bolt is locked open either manually or when the rifle cycles through all the rounds in the inserted magazine. The Extended Bolt Catch makes releasing and locking your bolt back so much easier do to it's increased surface area. Don't hunt around the side of your rifle for your Bolt Catch, go with their Extended Bolt Catch and never miss a beat.
