What Our Gearhead(R) Experts Are Saying:"I have carried the Grivel Air Tech Evo T Ice Axe on everything from long glacier approaches to moderate technical terrain and it handles the full range without feeling like a compromise in either direction. The hot-forged steel head bites reliably in firm snow and ice, and the G-bone shaft gives excellent grip without the weight penalty you get from lesser aluminum construction. It is the axe I default to when the route description leaves room for interpretation."Some objectives are defined by the moment the terrain tips up and the axe comes off the pack. On classic mountaineering routes, glacier crossings, and steep snow approaches where conditions can shift without warning, what you carry on that leash point matters considerably. The Grivel Air Tech Evo T Ice Axe is built for exactly that kind of versatility, a T-rated tool that performs reliably across the variable terrain that defines a full alpine season. The one-piece hot-forged steel head delivers the kind of solid, consistent placement that builds trust on firm surfaces, and the adze makes it a genuinely useful tool for step cutting and self-arrest alike. The G-bone aluminum shaft keeps the overall weight honest without sacrificing the torsional strength needed when the angle increases and placements need to hold. A rubber lower grip improves handling and control on steeper sections where gloves and cold hands make precision harder to come by, and compatibility with Grivel's Simple, G-Slider, and Long Leash Evo systems means the setup can be tailored to the objective at hand.
