The basics Fits: Field Notes 3.5" × 5.5" (and similar sized notebooks) Optional pen loop Full-grain leather, hand-stitched, hand-burnished edges Made by hand in my Kyiv workshop, one at a time The leather (and why it’s named on the label) Badalassi Carlo (Tabacco) — Italian vegetable-tanned full-grain. Firm, ages slow, builds a deep patina. Crazy Horse (Rusty) — waxed pull-up. Scratches rub out with your thumb, color shifts with carry. Ponte (Natural) — lighter natural color, vegetable-tanned, patinas gradually. Koala (Black, Cigar) — smooth, even, minimal marking. Stays consistent. All full-grain — the top layer of the hide, not corrected or bonded scraps. Who it’s not for If you want to carry a passport alongside your Field Notes, the Quartermaster v4 does both in one piece. FAQ Does it fit other notebook brands? It’s sized for Field Notes (3.5" × 5.5"). Other notebooks at those dimensions will fit — most pocket notebooks are close. Do I need the pen loop? Only if you carry a pen. Without it the cover is slightly slimmer. Either version holds the notebook the same way. Does the leather scratch? Crazy Horse (Rusty) marks with use — most scratches rub out with your thumb. Badalassi Carlo (Tabacco), Ponte (Natural), and Koala (Black, Cigar) are smoother and mark less. How do I care for it? Keep it out of the wash. A small amount of leather conditioner once or twice a year. It’ll look better with age. Who makes it and where? I do, by hand, in my workshop in Kyiv, Ukraine.
