What Our Gearhead(R) Experts Are Saying:"I built up a downcountry rig with the 34 SL Float Fork and was genuinely surprised by how much trail it could handle at that weight. The GRIP SL damper is noticeably supple on chatter and rock gardens, and the stiffness upgrade over the Step-Cast is immediately apparent when you push hard into corners. For anyone bridging the gap between a dedicated XC build and something more capable, this fork makes a compelling case."Somewhere between a pure race loop and a rowdy technical descent, there is a style of riding that demands a fork unwilling to compromise on either end. The FOX 34 SL Float Fork from FOX Racing Shox was built for exactly that space, delivering World Cup XC engineering into a chassis capable enough for the most demanding downcountry terrain a rider can find. At 1503g, it arrives at the trailhead already winning the weight argument before the first climb begins. The GRIP SL damper is the heart of what makes this fork feel exceptional rather than merely light. Its short-travel-specific tuning delivers a suppleness on repeated small hits and technical chatter that has historically been the tradeoff for going ultralight, and FOX has closed that gap significantly here. The arch design wraps around the lowers to increase torsional stiffness by 17% over the 34 Step-Cast, meaning the front end stays composed and precise when the trail pitches steep or the exit of a berm requires real commitment. A generatively designed 7000 series aluminum crown, machined with external geometry and enlarged internal bores, shaves every unnecessary gram without touching structural integrity. The FLOAT EVOL air spring rounds out a fork that is as tuneable as it is fast.
