Unlike most slides which are made from optically clear glass with no rinsing characteristics Uni-System slides are made from heat-sealed polyethylene and feature a unique double-corner structure that prevents nucleic acid adsorption. Slides are true-cast making cleavage at the corner (radioactively) extremely difficult but can be reheated by removing the glass lid (as described in the How to Use section below). Before attempting to stain the slide it is essential that the outer (glass) surface of the slide be pre-stained with a suitable staining agent.
