It gives you the handy size and light recoil of a pistol-caliber carbine with the muscle of rounds like the .44 Magnum and .357 Magnum, making it a strong choice for deer at woods ranges, ranch and truck use, and cowboy action shooting.About This ModelWith its short barrel and compact stock, this lever action is configured as a pistol under federal law. It is a handy, fun-to-shoot gun for the trail, truck or ranch. Check your state and local laws before ordering.Action, Barrel and HandlingThe lever action cycles smoothly and quickly, and the pistol feeds from a tubular magazine. Henry lists the safety as transfer bar. Learn how it works with an empty gun before you load it. The 13.8-inch barrel is round blued steel, with a 1:20 rate of twist. Overall length is 25.1 inches and the gun weighs 5.75 pounds, so it carries and handles well.Sights, Optics and FitSights are a fiber optic rear and a fiber optic front. For optics, Henry lists it as drilled & tapped and compatible with the BB-RSM mount. Choose rings or a mount that keep the optic low over the bore so your cheek stays on the stock. The stock is Black Synthetic in a pistol grip style, with a n/a buttplate.Choosing AmmunitionThe .44 Magnum is a powerful handgun cartridge that gains significant velocity from a rifle-length barrel, which makes it an excellent woods cartridge for deer and hogs. These rifles also shoot milder .44 Special loads for practice. Always use quality factory ammunition that matches the caliber marked on the barrel (.44 Magnum/.44 Spl), and confirm your zero with the exact load you plan to use.At the RangeFor target shooting and plinking, the smooth Henry action makes it easy to stay on target and enjoy a long session. Start with paper targets at short distance to learn the sights, then move to steel or reactive targets as your groups tighten. Keep a log of the loads that group best so you can return to them.Care and OrderingWipe down the metal after each outing, keep the bore and action lightly oiled and store the pistol unloaded and secured.
