Engineered for precision hunters seeking reliable performance from close range to extended distances, the Hornady 30 Cal .308 178 Gr ELD-X Bullets deliver match-grade accuracy combined with devastating terminal effects on medium and large game. These 178-grain projectiles feature Hornady's innovative ELD-X design, optimized for consistent expansion and weight retention across all practical hunting ranges when loaded in compatible .308 Winchester and similar 30-caliber cartridges. Key Features Heat Shield Tip Technology: The polymer tip resists aerodynamic heating, preserving its shape to maintain the highest-in-class ballistic coefficients throughout the bullet's flight for superior long-range stability and accuracy. Advanced Aerodynamic Design: Streamlined secant ogive profile, optimized boattail, and highly concentric AMP jackets work together to produce exceptional ballistic efficiency and reduced drag. Controlled Expansion at All Velocities: At high-velocity impacts (0-400 yards), the bullet expands progressively along its penetration path with 50-60% weight retention. At lower velocities beyond 400 yards, it forms a large mushroom while retaining 85-90% of its weight for deep penetration and effective wound channels. Match-Accurate Construction: Designed as an all-range hunting bullet that also excels in accuracy, making it ideal for both precision reloading and ethical game harvesting. Specifications Caliber: .308 / 30 Cal Weight: 178 grains Ballistic Coefficient: .552 (G1) / .278 (G7) Sectional Density: .268 Minimum Recommended Twist Rate: 1-12" Tip Style: Heat Shield polymer tip Quantity: 100 bullets per box Application: Medium to large game hunting Why Choose These Bullets Reloaders and hunters face the challenge of finding projectiles that perform reliably whether shots are taken at 100 yards or 500 yards. The ELD-X addresses this pain point with its dual-mode expansion that adapts to impact velocity, ensuring deep penetration and large wound cavities without fragmentation. The Doppler-radar-verified ballistic performance provides flatter trajectories and better wind resistance, helping shooters place shots accurately on target while the robust jacket and core design promotes ethical, quick harvests. These bullets are not lead-free and are intended for traditional hunting and target applications in rifles with appropriate twist rates. Their consistent lot-to-lot quality supports precise handloading for competitive or field use. Ideal Applications Precision reloading for .308 Winchester and similar 30-caliber cartridges Big-game hunting requiring versatile performance at varying distances Shooters prioritizing high ballistic coefficients and controlled terminal ballistics Upgrade your handloads with these technologically advanced projectiles to experience the difference in accuracy and terminal performance that dedicated hunters demand.
