The U.S. Springfield Armory Model 1898 is part of the Krag-J rgensen family of bolt-action military rifles manufactured at the historic U.S. Springfield Armory. This example retains its U.S. markings but has been substantially sporterized from its original military configuration. It now has a 21-inch barrel and a sporterized hunting stock fitted with a sling. The bluing and other metalwork are in good overall condition, and the action feels good when operated. Because of the shortened barrel and sporting stock, this rifle should be considered a sporterized historic Springfield rather than an original military-configuration Krag. Manufacture date: approximately fiscal year 1899. Reference: National Park Service, Springfield Armory National Historic Site's official U.S. Krag-J rgensen production records. The NPS places serial numbers 116,147-219,925 in fiscal year 1899 and notes that these serial ranges are approximate. National Park Service This firearm includes only the items shown in the photos.
