The core is chemically bonded to the jacket so the bullet holds together and retains weight, while the tip and boat tail give a high ballistic coefficient for long-range accuracy.About the 6.5 PRCWeatherby loads the 6.5 PRC to give a flat trajectory and strong retained energy at hunting distances. Heavier bullets in a caliber give more momentum and penetration for larger game, while lighter bullets shoot faster and flatter for open-country hunting. Choose the weight that matches the game you hunt and the distances you expect to shoot, then zero your rifle with that exact load.Always confirm that the cartridge headstamp matches the caliber marked on your barrel before firing. The 6.5 PRC headstamp must match exactly; similar-sounding cartridges are not interchangeable. If you are unsure, have a gunsmith check the chamber, and never fire ammunition that does not chamber freely without force.Getting the Best AccuracyEvery rifle has its own preferences, so try a box or two at the range before your hunt. Shoot three-shot groups from a solid rest with a cool barrel, and let the barrel cool between groups. Once you find the load your rifle likes, buy enough of the same lot to zero and practice with, since different lots can shift point of impact slightly.Note your point of impact at 100, 200 and 300 yards and, if you shoot farther, confirm the drop with real shooting rather than relying only on a ballistic app. That data, recorded for this exact load, is what lets you hold correctly when the shot comes.Shot Placement and EthicsEven the best bullet depends on where it lands. Practice until you can keep your shots inside the vital zone of your game at the distances you plan to hunt, from the positions you will actually use in the field. Know your effective range, pass on shots beyond it, and wait for a broadside or quartering-away angle that gives a clear path to the heart and lungs. After the shot, mark the spot and give the animal time before following up.Storage and HandlingStore ammunition and brass in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and solvents. Keep it in the original box until you need it so the lot number and load information stay with the rounds.Ordering and ShippingAmmunition ships to your door where state and local law allow, and you must be of legal age to buy it. Some states and cities restrict ammunition sales or require a license or in-person pickup, so check your local rules before ordering. Why Buy Weatherby Ammunition?Weatherby factory ammunition is built for Weatherby rifles and is the load the company names in its sub-MOA accuracy guarantee for its Mark V, Vanguard and Model 307 rifles.
