Barrel length is a balance between velocity and handling. A longer barrel lets the powder burn more completely for more velocity, which matters most with magnum cartridges, while a shorter barrel is quicker to swing and easier to carry through timber.About the Bergara B-14 PlatformThe B-14 is Bergara's core bolt action, built in Spain. It uses a two-lug bolt with a sliding plate extractor and a coned bolt nose, and it shares the Remington 700 footprint, so it works with a wide range of bases, triggers and stocks. The B-14 rides on Bergara's button-rifled barrels, the part the company built its name on.About the 22 LRThe 22 LR has wide factory ammunition support, so you can find hunting and practice loads for it at most sporting goods counters. Zero the rifle with the exact load you plan to hunt with and stay with it through the season, because changing loads can move your point of impact.Care and Setup TipsBefore the season, check that the action screws are snug, mount your scope with quality rings, and zero at the distance you expect to shoot. Confirm your zero again after travel. After each outing, wipe the metal down, run a patch through the bore, and store the firearm dry. A little care keeps the rifle accurate and protects the finish for years.About BergaraBergara began in 1999 as a barrel maker in Bergara, Spain, and its button-rifled barrels earned a reputation for accuracy long before the company built complete rifles. Today Bergara builds its rifles in Spain and the United States, and the brand is part of BPI Outdoors alongside CVA.Choosing AmmunitionFor hunting, choose a bullet built for the size of game and the distance you expect: controlled-expansion or bonded bullets for large or tough game, and faster-expanding bullets for smaller game. Buy enough of one lot to zero and practice, then stay with it.Practice and Field PrepSpend time at the range before the season shooting from the positions you will use in the field, such as sitting, kneeling and off shooting sticks. Knowing your holdover and your effective range is as important as the rifle itself, and it is what makes ethical shots possible.Transport and StorageCarry and store the firearm unloaded, in a padded case, and away from moisture. If you travel to hunt, check the transport rules for every state you pass through, and keep the owner's manual with the gun so the loading and cleaning steps are always at hand.Ordering and ShippingFirearms purchased online must be transferred through a federally licensed dealer.
