Rossi Sporting Rifle Background Rossi has a long history of producing firearms for the sporting market. The company's product lines have included rifles, shotguns, and other firearms in a variety of configurations and chamberings. The S20-250 YMB designation identifies a particular Rossi rifle configuration, while the .22-250 chambering provides an important part of the rifle's specifications. As with other firearms produced over multiple years, details can vary between individual production periods. When documenting a specific Rossi rifle, the markings found directly on the firearm should take precedence over generalized specifications. .22-250 Remington Chambering The .22-250 Remington is a centerfire rifle cartridge developed from the .250-3000 Savage case and standardized by Remington in the 1960s. It uses a .224-inch-diameter projectile and is commonly associated with sporting and varmint-oriented applications. The cartridge is available with a variety of factory ammunition configurations. Bullet weights, projectile construction, velocity, and other published specifications vary between ammunition manufacturers and individual loads. Actual ballistic performance can depend on ammunition selection, barrel length, environmental conditions, and the individual firearm. Current ammunition information should always be obtained from the ammunition manufacturer's published specifications. 22-Inch Barrel This Rossi S20-250 YMB features a 22-inch barrel. Barrel length is an important identifying specification and should be accurately documented when describing the individual firearm. When evaluating a pre-owned rifle, the barrel can be inspected for exterior finish, muzzle and crown condition, bore condition, rifling, and chamber condition. Visible wear or other cosmetic characteristics should be evaluated from the individual firearm. The barrel markings can also provide useful information concerning caliber, proofing, and manufacturing details. Burris Riflescope The rifle is equipped with a Burris riflescope. Burris has produced a broad selection of sporting optics, including riflescopes with various magnification ranges, objective diameters, reticle configurations, and adjustment systems. Because Burris has manufactured numerous scope models, the exact model and specifications of the optic should be verified from the markings on the scope itself. Magnification, objective size, reticle, tube diameter, and other technical specifications should not be assumed without identifying the particular model. Treat every firearm as though it is loaded, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, keep fingers outside the trigger guard until ready to fire, and verify that the rifle is unloaded before handling, cleaning, transporting, or storing it.
