The Glock 22 Gen 2 is a discontinued, full-size, striker-fired semi-automatic pistol chambered in .40 S&W. Introduced in 1990, it was engineered by scaling up the 9mm Glock 17 frame to accommodate the then-new, highly popular .40 S&W cartridge. It quickly became a foundational duty weapon for American law enforcement agencies and federal departments due to its utter reliability and controllable recoil. Physical Characteristics & Esthetics The Gen 2 design represents Glock's early evolution, moving past the smooth "pebble" grip of the first generation while retaining a streamlined profile: * The Frame: Features a classic smooth-sided polymer frame with integrated checkering added to the front strap and backstrap for an improved grip. * No Finger Grooves: Unlike later Gen 3 and Gen 4 models, the Gen 2 front strap is completely straight, providing a uniform grip surface preferred by many shooters. * No Accessory Rail: The straight "dust cover" underneath the barrel lacks a Picatinny or universal rail. Tactical lights or lasers cannot be mounted directly to the frame without specialized trigger-guard adapters. * Slide: Constructed with a simple matte black finish and standard rear slide serrations for cocking. Performance & Internals * Safe Action System: Operates on Glock's signature striker-fired system featuring three automatic independent safety mechanisms (trigger safety, firing pin safety, and drop safety) with a standard trigger pull of roughly 28 Newtons (approx. 5.5 lbs). * Full-Size Stability: The longer slide layout yields a generous sight radius that maximizes accuracy, while the full grip ensures a solid purchase to handle the snap of the .40 S&W round.
