Underwood Ammo Xtreme Defense Features The Underwood Ammo Xtreme Defense Platinum load is built around Underwood s Xtreme Penetrator design philosophy using an optimized nose flute bullet weight and velocity combination to achieve penetration depths up to 18 inches while generating a permanent wound cavity over 100 percent larger than typical expanding hollow point projectiles. This solid monolithic copper bullet does not rely on expansion to perform meaning its wound channel remains consistent even after passing through barriers like wallboard sheet metal or automotive glass. At 68 grains and 1400 feet per second this .380 ACP +P load produces 296 ft lbs of muzzle energy a notable output for the caliber. The +P rating reflects the increased pressure and velocity this load is loaded to for enhanced terminal performance. Nickel-plated brass casings used in this load improve feeding reliability across different handgun actions while offering better corrosion resistance than traditional brass over long-term storage. These casings also resist tarnishing from contact with leather moisture or other metals which matters for ammunition carried daily in a pocket holster or magazine. Because the bullet is lead-free this round appeals to shooters concerned about lead exposure during training or storage. Each box contains 20 rounds and this load is also rated safe for use in a suppressor adding further versatility for shooters running a suppressed .380 ACP platform.
