TAURUS MODEL 66, .357 MAG/.38 SPL, 7 ROUNDS, DA/SA, 6" BARREL. THIS BLACK BEAUTY IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION! The Taurus Model 66 is a medium-frame, seven-shot revolver chambered in .357 Magnum and .38 Special / .38 Special +P. Widely regarded as a budget-friendly alternative to the Smith & Wesson 686 or Ruger GP100, it is built as a workhorse for home defense, range shooting, and trail duty. The primary variants include the standard DA/SA models (available in 4-inch or 6-inch barrel lengths) and the specialized Taurus 66 Combat (a 3-inch, double-action-only model released in late 2025). 1. General Consensus & Expert Reviews * Value & Firepower: Reviewers consistently highlight the 7-round capacity as a major advantage, giving it an extra round over traditional 6-shot revolvers in the same class. For the standard models, the price point (frequently around $500) makes it an excellent budget-tier "best buy" for recreational shooters. * Recoil Management: Testers from outlets like Gun Tests note that the all-steel frame and 38+ oz weight handle heavy .357 Magnum defensive loads efficiently, keeping muzzle flip manageable. * The "Combat" Upgrade: Reviews for the newer 66 Combat model from sources like American Rifleman praise its smooth, combat-tuned 8.5 to 10 lb trigger and its Taurus Optics Ready Option (TORO) system, which allows modern red-dot mounting on an RMSC footprint. 2. Community & Forum Insights * Reliability: On firearm forums like The Firing Line, opinions are mixed regarding Taurus's historical quality control. Many long-term owners report trouble-free performance stretching past 1,000 rounds, while others emphasize checking the timing and cylinder lock-up at the gun counter before purchasing due to occasional factory variances. * Trigger Comparison: On discussions across platforms like Reddit, some users note that the out-of-the-box single-action pull is surprisingly crisp, though opinions differ on how the double-action pull stacks up against more expensive Ruger or S&W options. **SPECIFICATIONS** Manufacturer: TAURUS Model: 66 Caliber: .357 MAG/ .38 SPL Magazines: N/A Sights: FIXED FRONT RAMP, ADJUSTABLE REAR Weight: 42 OZ Overall Length: 12.2" Barrel Length: 6" SERIAL NUMBER: BR615574 SKU NUMBER: DJ1040150
