Product Description
The Valmet M49 Orava is a scarce and historically interesting Finnish rimfire rifle, produced during the early years of Finland's postwar firearms industry. Designed as a training and youth rifle, the Orava ("Squirrel" in Finnish) introduced new shooters to marksmanship through a simple, reliable, and well-built platform. Manufactured by Valmet, a company that would later become internationally recognized for its firearms and industrial products, the M49 Orava represents an important chapter in Finnish sporting rifle development and is seldom encountered today.
This example is in good condition and retains an excellent bore, making it a particularly attractive survivor. The metal finish remains very good, with strong bluing that complements the rifle's classic appearance. The stock shows significant wear from years of handling and use, as visible in the photographs, adding character and reflecting the rifle's history as a working training arm. Combining Finnish craftsmanship, early production heritage, and solid overall condition, this Valmet M49 Orava is a desirable addition to any collection of vintage European rimfire rifles.
