Product Description
Offered here is an Italian military-surplus Carcano Moschetto Modello 1891, commonly known as the M91 Cavalry Carbine. This example was manufactured by F.N.A. Brescia-Fabbrica Nazionale d'Armi-in 1938 and is chambered for the original 6.5x52mm Carcano cartridge.
The receiver is marked "38-XVI." The "38" indicates its 1938 production year, while "XVI" represents the 16th year of Italy's Fascist-era calendar. The serial number is H3751.
This carbine retains the distinctive features associated with the M91 Cavalry pattern, including its short military stock, adjustable rear sight and integral folding spike bayonet. The bayonet folds beneath the barrel when stored and is released using the lever mounted near the muzzle. Unlike the later fixed-sight M91/38 carbine, this example has an adjustable tangent-style rear sight.
The Carcano action uses a six-round en-bloc ammunition clip. No ammunition or clip is represented as included unless specifically shown or stated elsewhere in the listing.
This rifle is in fair-to-good military-surplus condition. The metal displays dark patina, thinning finish, handling wear and scattered oxidation consistent with its age and service history. The buttplate exhibits more pronounced surface oxidation. The stock has numerous scratches, dents, gouges and other honest military handling marks. Please examine all photographs carefully because they form an important part of the condition description.
The receiver markings remain legible, and the folding bayonet and operating lever are present. Matching numbers have not been confirmed. The firearm has not been test fired, and no representation is made regarding bore condition or mechanical fitness unless separately stated. As with any vintage military firearm, it should be inspected by a qualified gunsmith before firing.
The actual firearm shown in the photographs is the firearm being offered. This is an appealing example for the Carcano collector, Italian military-arms collection or historical bolt-action rifle collection.
