The 50 caliber version of Weatherby's Model 307 MZY takes the most popular muzzleloader bore in America and hangs it on a real rifle action. Muzzleloaders have historically been built to a price, with mushy triggers and clunky stocks; the MZY instead starts from the bolt action Model 307 platform, so the handling and lockup feel like the centerfire rifles you already hunt with. The 26 inch barrel carries a muzzle brake, and on a 50 caliber gun running magnum charges that matters, taming a recoil impulse that normally beats hunters up at the bench during load development. At the heart of the MZY is the Arrowhead Gen2 Ignition System, a sealed design running precision fit primer modules with large rifle primers.A peep sight comes installed, faster and more forgiving than open sights when a buck steps out in gray light, and the black carbon finished stock handles weather without complaint. Fifty caliber keeps the widest selection of bullets, sabots, and preformed charges on dealer shelves, which is exactly what you want when primitive season supplies run thin. Serious muzzleloader hunters finally get a gun built to rifle standards.
