The High Standard Sentinel is a lightweight, nine-shot, double-action/single-action .22 LR revolver introduced in 1955 and produced until 1984. It features an anodized aluminum frame, a swinging cylinder opened by pulling the ejector rod forward, and was originally sold as an affordable utility "tackle box" kit gun. Key Design Features Capacity: Holds 9 rounds of .22 Short, Long, or Long Rifle ammunition. Operation: Functions in both single-action and double-action modes. Cylinder Release: Lacks a standard side thumb latch; the cylinder swings open by pulling forward on the front ejector rod. Build: Utilizes an innovative screwless-frame design (except for the grip screw) engineered by Harry Sefried. Variants and History Original Production: Offered with 3-inch or 6-inch barrels (and later 2-inch snub-nose models) in black oxide, nickel, or colorful Duratone finishes like pink and gold. Retail Partners: Marketed through Sears as the J.C. Higgins Model 88 and through Western Auto as the Revelation Model 99. Later Models: Followed by heavier steel-framed versions like the Sentinel Mark I and Magnum-chambered Mark V.
