The adjustable gain of the PVS-14 ensures that the operator is able to fine tune the device to optimized performance as ambient light conditions change. In the helmet mounted configuration the PVS-14 allows the operator to keep the night adapted vision retained in one eye while utilizing the illuminated eyepiece of the device to enhance their situational awareness. The battery housing of the PVS-14 now includes a feature that powers the unit down when the device is stowed in the upright position on the helmet. This PVS-14 unit features a white phosphor image intensifier tube with a min. 1760 FOM makes the unit more affordable.
