Speer .243 85 Grain Jacketed Soft Point Boat-Tail Rifle Bullet 100. The design works because boat tails the name we give to the boat tail of a bullet give it a stable shape and retain weight that increases velocity. The majority of rifle bullets have a thin jacket that enhances ballistic coefficient and acts as a brake to reduce flinching in the magazine of a semi-automatic rifle. While jacketed bullets are capable of penetrating steel they have a disadvantageous glare from the high metal concentration. Speer bullets avoid this problem by using a nickel-plated nose a copper jacket and a lead core.
