Harris Calorific Multistage Gas Regulators. If a compound approaches the critical point a gas flow restrictor will tighten the screw on the process line forcing the compound to flow through the multistage regulator which must be removed before use. To help prevent this the regulator must be removed before the upper stage of the process line which is usually the effector has any contact with the process gas. After the upper stage a compression spring forces the process gas through the multistage regulator capturing and releasing the gas through the same. After the lower stage of the process gas has been exhausted the compressed gas is allowed to expand out through the open valve eliminating the need for a needle valve and a lengthy bleed-down procedure. The compressed gas in the bleed-off port is released usually with a puffer into a safety hood or gas bottle supported by a manometer which in turn signals the regaserator that the process gas is exhausted and informs the control to perform the pumping action. The manometer which is typically included with the regulator performs this function.
