Product Description

The Colt 1860 Army revolver played a pivotal role during the American Civil War, with the U.S. government purchasing a substantial 127,156 units, making it the primary revolver for Union forces. Produced from 1860 to 1873, this .44 Cal six-shooter was available in military and civilian variants, but it was the military model, distinguished by its 4-screw frame and cutout recoil shield for attaching a shoulder stock, that dominated production. Combining the power of earlier dragoon models with enhanced ballistics, improved balance and a lighter weight of two lb, 11 oz, compared to the dragoon's heavier build, the 1860 Army featured a sleek design with rounded contours and an 8 inches round barrel. Notable improvements included the "creeping" rack and pinion-style loading lever, replacing the hinged lever of earlier models. Following the Civil War, the Colt 1860 continued to serve on the frontier until being superseded by metallic cartridge revolvers. Cimarron offers an authentic reproduction of the early 1860 military model, complete with brass back strap and trigger guard, available in Standard Blue, Charcoal Blue or Cimarron's Original Finish. The 1860 remains a beloved firearm of the mid-19th century, revered for its reliability and iconic design.
