The GEW 88 was adopted by Germany in 1888. This rifle has a date of 1891 on the receiver along with several arsenal stamps which are still visible. There is also a unit marking on the front barrel band which is still visible. The rifle was converted to 8x57 mm Mauser at some point, so getting ammo to fit is far easier today. The action is smooth and seems to function properly mechanically.
