In its compact lightweight body the WG-8 features a lens with a five-times optical zoom range of 28-140 mm (35 mm format equivalent). This covers a wide range of applications from wide-angle shots of expansive landscapes to telephoto shots of distant subjects but it also proves its qualities in school research and work. The robust housing of the PENTAX WG-8 is not only waterproof up to a depth of 20 metres and for up to two hours of continuous operation under water as well as dustproof against dirt and dust but also shockproof when dropped from a height of up to 2. 1 metres shatterproof against weights of up to 100 kgf (kilopond) and cold-resistant down to temperatures of -10 C. Thanks to this robust construction the WG-8 works excellently and reliably in harsh demanding locations where other cameras stay better protected in their bags. The WG-8 is designed for quick error-free operation even under difficult shooting conditions. Housed in a solid body made of a high-strength aluminium plate it allows you to switch recording modes by simply turning the mode dial while the vertical zoom button makes it easy to operate the zoom. The control buttons on the back are spaced far apart making them easy to use even when wearing gloves. The WG-8 allows you to change the default settings of the Green and ADJ (adjustment) buttons to the functions you want (e.g. exposure compensation for still image recording image size aspect ratio ISO sensitivity and white balance). Customising these settings allows you to personalise camera operation and respond more quickly to constantly changing shooting conditions. The WG-8 also allows you to programme frequently used shooting modes and/or exposure compensation settings to the mode dial's U1 and U2 positions. The WG-8 lets you choose the desired shooting mode from 24 options including: Auto Picture which automatically detects the type of a scene and selects the most appropriate shooting mode; Underwater and Underwater Movie which reproduce the natural colors of the underwater world by optimizing white balance to reduce the bluish color cast. You can select the mode that best suits your application or subject. The WG-8 provides six distinctive Image Tone modes to add the desired finishing touch to captured images depending on the subject or your creative intensions. They include: Cross Process which emulates a unique color scheme associated with a cross-processing film development technique; Vibrant which applies bright rich vivid colors; and Slide Film which creates dynamic high-contrast images resembling those produced by reversal film. 3.0-inch LCD monitor with Outdoor View Setting for easy viewing during outdoor shooting The WG-8 is equipped with a large high-resolution 3.0-inch LCD monitor (3:2 proportions and approximately 1040000 dots). The advanced AR (Anti-Reflection) coating has been applied to its protective cover to minimize annoy-ing glare and reflections during outdoor shooting. To optimize the visibility of the on-screen image it also features the Outdoor View Setting function which lets you adjust the monitors brightness to a desired level (+-2 steps) according to changes in ambient lighting conditions. The WG-8 provides 4K-resolution movie recording (at 3840 x 2160 pixels). The maximum recording length or image size of a single movie file is 25 minutes or 4GB. The WG-8s built-in GPS module automatically records position data and travel log data onto captured images. Since you can synchronize captured images with their position data on a map or display travel log data on a map youll have more fun during the post-shooting stages. The WG-8 also lets you imprint GPS data and directional data acquired by the digital compass and UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) on the lower right corner of a captured image. Two user modes are also provided to save two sets of user-selected camera settings.
