The Enfield Mk III (Short Magazine Lee-Enfield, or SMLE) was Britain's iconic bolt-action rifle, adopted in 1907 and serving as the main infantry rifle through both World Wars, known for its rapid firing capability and distinctive features like the 10-round magazine. Key improvements over earlier models included a fixed charger bridge, better sights, and adaptations for high-velocity ammunition, leading to the simplified wartime Mk III* (Mark Three Star) which removed magazine cut-offs and volley sights, becoming the dominant variant. Its design allowed for quick reloading with stripper clips, making it highly effective fast firing weapon
