The Pika Alpine Pants were built by me (Jeff) and Dominic after four years of getting deep into adventure racing. These events run for multiple days, non-stop, with little sleep and constant transitions: trail running, mountain biking, climbing in a harness, pack rafting or kayaking, and navigating only by map and compass. We needed a single pair of pants we could wear for the entire race. We worked with CORDURAA(R) to craft the perfect stretch-woven fabric that stays light when soaked, dries extremely fast, resists abrasion, and still moves comfortably in any condition, wet or dry. The no-slip waist uses a snap, G-hook, and full internal belt to stay secure as the hours stack up. The thigh zip pocket is reachable in a harness and, like the others, uses fast-dry mesh so it does not hold water. The built-in gaiter cuffs cinch with a lace hook to keep crap out of your shoes. Small touches like front and rear accessory loops let us hang sunglasses or a Garmin InReach. The magic really is in the fabric and its durability to survive an adventure race, be comfortable to wear for multiple days on end and stretchy enough to run, hike, ride and climb in.
