95 points: A Top-Rated Ka?u Coffee This is one of the most beloved Ka' u coffees we offer. Grown south of Kona in the district of Ka? u , this Wood Valley Single Estate Ka?u coffee is a beautiful example of why we love this region. On a small, lush farm in the heart of majestic Wood Valley at 2300’, ripe red coffee cherries are meticulously tended, harvested and hand-sorted. Careful, attentive processing and drying safeguard the precious time and energy the land, plants and people dedicated to growing this fine coffee. The result is an intensely aromatic, juicy, ripe, syrupy sweet, and balanced cup. To do this great Ka' u coffee justice, and as is our practice when we bring in new Hawaiian coffees , we've carefully designed the roast profile to reveal the exotic, inherent, hidden flavors. Freshly milled and then roasted, we cupped several roast profiles before selecting our favorite. And that is what we share with you here. Coffee Review Blind Assessment Elegant and expressive. Notes of pink grapefruit, vanilla orchid, guava, vanilla and cocoa nib in aroma and cup. Bright, balanced acidity; silky, buoyant body. The finish is resonant and richly sweet, with citrus, floral and cocoa nib into the long. Notes Produced by Dennis Albert of Green Turtle Coffee Estate in the Wood Valley area of Ka‘u, from trees of the Typica and Caturra varieties of Arabica, and processed by the washed method (fruit skin and pulp removed before drying). Bottom Line A beautifully articulated washed Ka‘u washed with radiant fruit and floral top notes supported by subtle cocoa depth — refined, transparent, enticing.
