The Sinclair comparator is an exceptional tool for sorting bullets by base-to-ogive length, a crucial step if you are considering trimming the bullet meplat. Note - when sorting a large quantity of bullets, some handloaders may find a digital caliper more suitable than a dial caliper. An alternative tool for bullet sorting is the Sinclair bullet Sorting Stand (No. 59-2000), which utilizes its own unique comparators. The Sinclair bullet comparator attaches to the caliper blade and employs inserts specific to each caliber. These inserts are crafted from stainless steel and feature a tapered and short straight section to more accurately replicate the chamber throat, thereby eliminating the wobble often encountered with comparators that have standard drilled holes. This design enables quick and precise measurement of the bullet's bearing surface. Comparator inserts are available for calibers ranging from .17 to .45 and are compatible with both Sinclair and older Stoney Point comparator bodies. These inserts are not designed for measuring rounds seated to magazine length or shorter.
