It's here.The rims: Produced by Carbonal specifically for Jefe, these meticulously produced rims are light, wide and vertically compliant without compromising strength or reliability. Like our 29er Jayhawker rims, these sport a tire retention bead, so you can run higher pressures without fear of tire blowoffs. We were impressed by the production quality of these rims. They have a 24mm inner width, a 30mm outer width, are 35mm deep, and have a 2.5mm offset to ensure wheelset strength under dishing conditions. They ship with a pair of tubeless valves (already installed) and are pre-taped so that they're ready for you to add tires, sealant, and go when they arrive. The rim size is quite versatile, allowing the use of tires as narrow as 35mm and as wide as 2.6". The Spokes: 32 Sapim double butted spokes with Sapim brass npls, both in black. Laced in a traditional cross-3 configuration for compliance and suppleness on the trail or gravel. Produced in Belgium at the central Sapim manufacturing plant. There is no question that these spokes are a capable core to a stout wheelset like the Jayhawker. Each wheelset comes with two extra spokes per wheel--super useful for being prepared for the unexpected during your bikepacking adventures.The Hubs: The same time-tested dynamo hubs, rear hubsets and freehubs used in the Jayhawker 29er dynamo wheelsets. The front hubs are Shutter Precision PD-7 (Non-Boost, 12MM thru axle), and Shutter Precision PD-8X (Boost, 15mm thru axle). Shutter Precision hubs have high production quality and offer tremendous value - we have tested a set well beyond 12,000 off-road miles with no maintenance or concerns. The rear hubs are Jefe brand, produced by our Taiwanese partner PowerWay. Both the non-boost and boost versions come with 6-hole ISO disc braking, a 6-pawl removable freehub, 9 degrees of engagement and a buzzy 40 tooth ratchet ring, and easy to source ABEC3 Euduro bearings. Freehubs are available in SRAM XD, SRAM XDR, Shimano HG, and Shimano Microspline.This first set of 27.5 Jayhawkers was assembled by hand locally here in Indiana by wheelbuilding professionals to exacting standards.
