The name 'draughts' derives from the verb to draw or to move, whereas 'checkers' derives from the checkered board which the game is played on. This checkers set is made of black and white marble. The black marble design is royal black. This stone had a dark, natural color with lights quartz and calcite coursing through. The white marble is coral. This stone has light grey and yellow patterning crisscrossing its surface. The black marble continues into the border. The pieces have a simplistic, yet elegant design. The board is 16". A move consists of diagonally moving a piece to an adjacent unoccupied square. If the adjacent square contains an opponent's piece, and the square immediately beyond it is vacant, the piece may be jumped, or captured, and removed from the game.Only the dark squares of the checkers board are used. A piece may move only diagonally into an unoccupied square. When available, capturing is mandatory in most official rules, although some rule variations make capturing optional.
