Uberti 1875 No. 3 Top Break .45 Colt 7" Bbl F/N Plated Steel Revolver 348572, By 1875 firearms that used self-contained metallic cartridges were growing ever more popular and Smith & Wesson produced their Model 3 revolver in response. U.S. Army Major George Schofield recognized the advantages of the pistol's top-break design and made modifications to meet the cavalry's needs. Soon Smith & Wesson incorporated those changes and the Model 3 became known as "The Scofield Revolver." The Model 3 Scofield saw some success with the U.S. Army but was largely overlooked due to the popularity of the Colt Single Action Army. The Scofield Model 3 was however adopted by the Russian Government with the Czar ordering 41000 units. The reputation of these revolvers extended beyond military use and they quickly found their way into the hands of civilians lawmen and outlaws alike. Outlaw Jesse James was known to carry Scofield for much of his criminal career and ironically was killed with one. Another user of the Model 3 Scofield was none other than that Lawman Wyatt Earp who used one to great success during the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral.Uberti's Model 3 revolvers are authentic reproductions of the original down to the last detail including the top-break design spent case extractors and hardwood grips.
