Cooper saw the potential of a versatile lightweight and general propose rifle with good accuracy and is chambered in a heavy hitting cartridge similar to that of a "guide rifle". The Steyr Scout meets every requirement for this concept marvelously and makes an excellent companion for backpacking in bear territory or for the next hunt. TheSteyr Scoutis typically chambered in the potent .308 cartridge but other options such as .243 Winchester are available. The forend can actually be folded down and used as a bipod and the stock contains a hollow well for the storage of an additional magazine.
