Kona Noir Fruit-Forward Rare Variety, KONA NOIR | Winey, Fruit - Forward, Rare If you love the fruity - floral complexity of Geisha coffees, or the currant and wine - like flavors of coffees from Kenya, you'll love Kona Noir. Kona Noir comes from a coffee variety that is rarely found on the Hawaiian Islands: SL - 34. This variety was originally bred in Kenya and spread to farms throughout the region thanks to its exceptional quality, large beans and yield potential. It has since become the iconic coffee of the Kenya flavor profile, often noted as having flavors of currant, red wine, cola, pomegranate and tomato. Growing this variety on Hawaii Island soil changes the profile, as does the cultivation methods employed by producers. Depending on the roast level you get, you might taste molasses and ginger (darker roast) or red wine and currants (a lighter roast). Kona Noir was grown by two exceptional neighboring farmers in Kona, Kraig & Franc, and processed via controlled fermentation with a wine yeast that is commonly used to ferment Riesling, Viognier, and Chardonnay. By using this wine yeast, the farmers are 'dialing in' the flavor profile of the coffee in the same way that vintners do with wine. | Kona Noir Fruit - Forward Rare Variety | Drip | 4 oz. | Dark Roast | Big Island Coffee Roasters
