However, as metallic cartridges became more and more popular, the shortcomings of the percussion cap revolvers became more and more noticeable. They were slow to reload, and were prone to misfire if loaded improperly. To keep up with the constantly evolving design of handguns, older percussion cap revolvers were converted to fire the new metallic cartridges.
